A public EV fast charging network was launched in Bucharest. Fifty stations should open by 2019.
Romania has a very ambitious EV charging stations plan. A fast EV public charging network was launched in Bucharest with the support of Kaufland hypermarkets. "We are going to build in the next nine months ten EV charging stations on the axis Arad – Constanta, which goes from West to South-East", said Valer Hancas, National Marketing Director of Kaufland. Nine out of ten of these EV charging stations will be in the parkings of Kaufland hypermarkets. The second partner of this project is Renovatio, a local producer and distributor of renewable energy.

The country’s plan is to reach 50 EV charging points across Romania within three years. Renovatio estimates the cost of each EV station up to € 45,000.
Last year, almost 500 hybrid and electric cars were sold in Romania. This is twice more than in 2014 according to the Association of Car Producers and Importers. The country has about 6.6 million cars.
